I know what most people think when I tell them that I had a rat called Wilf – ‘how could you be attached to a rat?’ but he followed me everywhere, sat on my knee while I drew (I’m an illustrator) – we ate our porridge together every morning – the first thing I did when I woke was to fetch Wilf. I had my porridge alone today and I miss him so very, very much. He was incredibly gentle and devoted. For Wilfy, rethink your opinion of all the pet rats out there. They are bright, affectionate souls
